Coldstream Guards

This year Coldstream Civic Week is part of Homecoming Scotland where we are celebrating the birth of our national poet and Bard Robert Burns (or Rabbie to his friends) as his work has been around for 250 years. Visit Scotland in conjunction with the Scottish Executive have issued postcards for people to send to family, friends and anyone else they know. The idea is that if you get a postcard then 2009 is the year to return to Scotland and take part in the celebrations. The Common Ridings throughout the Borders are a part of Homecoming Scotland and each Border Toon is trying to do as much as they can for people to enjoy their Common Riding Week. Needless to say if you are Scottish, have Scottish in your ancestry or simply love Scotland then this is the year to visit.

Coldstream Civic Week will once again welcome all Coldstream Guardsmen and ex-Coldstream Guardsmen to the town with open arms. The comments from people in the town about last year were that they loved having both serving members and ex-serving members of the Coldstream Guards in and around the town. Especially appreciated was the march on the Friday which included the Yorkshire Corps of Drums and many would like to see this as a fixture in the Civic Week calendar.

So now you have seen the postcard, it is up to you! For those who have been before it is looking like it will be even better and for those who have not yet made the trip – it is the perfect time to COME HOME TO COLDSTREAM!

Coldstream Kids Great Glen Way Challenge September 2009

We are now in our second year as a dedicated charity supporting children or former and serving Coldstream Guardsmen under the age of sixteen who become victims of misfortune or unforeseen circumstances or suffer hardship. Over this period, we have supported a number of Coldstream children who have desperately needed our support. Through the generosity of our Coldstream family and the many fundraising projects already undertaken along with those planned for the future. It is our hope that we can continue to provide a unique support system to those in need. Please view the link provided regarding our next proposed challenge where it is hoped that we can raise further funds in support of our ongoing work.

Coldstreamers Reunion Blackpool October 2009

The Coldstreamers re-union Weekend / Gala Dinner will this year be held at the Norbreck Castle Hotel in Blackpool. The Norbreck is Blackpool's largest hotel situated on Queen's Promenade. It has over 400 bedrooms with 20 adapted for disabled guests. They advertise their facilities as 'Second To None' and include: indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, steam room, solarium, whirlpool spa and cinema. It has an enormous car park. October is a quietish time in Blackpool with the holiday period having come to a end and the children back at school.
